Pack Trip into the Sabrina Basin of the Bishop Creek Drainage-August 5, 2008
|
August 5, 2008
We returned from a
wine club party at
Rancho Sisquoc on
Sunday the 3rd. On
Monday we cleaned
and repacked the
Bounder for the drive
to Bishop, California
on Tuesday.
It was an exciting drive
up to the pack station
from Bishop. Bishop is
about 4000 feet
elevation; the pack
station is 9000 feet.
We unhooked the Jeep
and Sammy and Phil
drove the Bounder
while Mary Ann,
Katherine and Jocelyn
drove the Jeep up.
Along the way we saw a
lightning strike which
started a small forest
fire.
Arriving at the pack
station, we made ready
to load gear on the
mules the next day and
got dinner ready:(Beef
Bourguignon ).
I have attached a copy
of a Google map and
photo of the general
area.
You can click on these thumbs to see larger versions which will open in a new window.
First, start bouncing. Then, jump off. Now, stick your
landing. Finally, go play on the slide.
While we were staring
wide-eyed at the storm a
lightnig bolt gave us something
else to stare at, a fire.
The pack station loading dock
was already filling up so that
the next day we could journey
to the mountain quickly.
