Monday was another day to sit inside the Bounder and watch the
weather. It was cold, raining and the wind blowing. We watched the
snow fall on the mountains all around us. Nice to be warm and snug in
the RV. This picture was late in the day as the sun was dipping behind
the Panamint Mountains. It is the view out the front windows of the
Bounder.
Tuesday found us moving from Sunset to Furnace Creek Campground and
setting up camp in anticipation of the arrival of the other three couples.
Wednesday dawned with clouds and the memory of over night showers.
This morning we plan to head out to see Fall Canyon. A short walk that
leads to two dry falls ( we hope) and some great views across the valley.
At the Visitor's Center this Road Runner
gave some indication of how cold it was.
Part of our intrepid group ready to set out
for fall Canyon. It was still very cold and
we were in the shadows of the canyon
almost all the trip.
Headed up the mouth of the small canyon in which
is the fall I'm pointing at in the picture to the left. No
water in the creek, thank goodness because this
not a place you want to be when it rains.
Thursday December 18,
2008 saw us headed up
Marble Canyon
Walking up Marble Canyon through the narrows. One can see
the past history of erosion in the canyon. In these pictures you
can see roughly the same formation at several levels in the
side walls. As the creek cuts it way down in the canyon it
forms the same curves over and over.
Mary Ann is 'holding up' the chock stone which has
blocked the canyon. The second picture is from above
looking down on the blockage.
Various Cambrian and
Per-cambrian fossils. Almost
all of the dolomite in this
area is grey and most
sections have some fossils.
Darla I assume these are
two different discontinuities.
The above is Cambrian and
recent volcanic and the one
below is Cambrian and
plutonic. We have to find a
time for you to go up here
and explain it all to us.
We spend a lot of time
eating and drinking wine.
