1957 fast froward 2006, almost 2007.   Let’s
recap that time in a few sentences.

1957: senior parties, swimming at the Sulphur
Mines. Then came 25 years of marriage to
spouse number one, many moves, lots of
camping, etc. Being a “non” working and/or
part-time nurse and Mom, and rearing five
children, I became an expert chauffeur,
volunteer, cook and make-a-doer for whatever
situation arose. Lots of memories, like serving
on the fundraising committee for Lafayette
High School Band in 1979. We raised the
monies needed and off we all went to Italy.
Proudly, we were the first American band to
perform in St. Peter’s Square for the younger
Pope John Paul - what excitement!

The 1980’s slipped in and I slipped into
singleness, not all bad. Luck provided the
opportunity to become Mrs. John Breaux’s
secretary/driver –etc. We campaigned the
entire state of Louisiana on behalf of her
spouse’s bid for the U.S. Senate. What a year!
He was elected, and I moved to Alexandria to
maintain Sen. Breaux’s Central LA office.  Life
was interesting, serving on the United
Methodist Singles task force and the Red
Cross, working some as a LPN, and keeping up
with increasing numbers of grandchildren. It
was at this time that my interest in “Birding “
became a real hobby.

By the mid 1990’s my love for nursing won over
the political arena and I went into nursing full
time. Amazingly my blood pressure returned to
normal. I arrived in Central Florida in
December of 96 -furniture and all my plants. It
wasn’t Mickey that lured me; it was two adult
children and two of my now eight grandkids.  I
immediately got involved with Audubon and
conservation issues. I worked as a Resident
Advocate and home health nurse for a large
retirement village and enjoyed lots of good
bird watching.  Then in August of 1999 I said “I
do” to my dear friend Steve and he is Spouse
#2. He’s a keeper!

So presently I’m semi-retired and re-treaded
with my new titanium left knee, plus doing a
little private duty nursing and volunteering.
Steve will retire from the U.S. Postal Service
by September 2006. Hopefully when we all get
together at the reunion, we will have our new
address in eastern Tennessee and will be
ready to play with great grandchild #4.
