BIOGRAPHY
Raymond L. “Bubba” Nelson, Jr.
Bubba graduated from Sulphur High School with the Class of 57. He
enlisted in the U.S. Army that summer. Thereafter, he attended LSU
for two years and McNeese State University for two years on a golf
scholarship. He received a BS degree from McNeese in Industrial
Management in 1963.
From 1964 to 1977 Bubba worked for Nelson Industrial Services, Inc
in Sulphur, La. and Browning Ferris Industries in Houston, Texas.
In 1978, Bubba founded Allwaste Services of Texas, Inc. in Houston,
Texas. He was the only employee and drove the first truck.
Subsequently, he founded five additionally Allwaste companies.
Aided by an acquisition Allwaste, Inc. went public on December 5,
1986. From March 1987 to August 1997 Allwaste completed 160
acquisitions. Allwaste merged with Philip Services a Canadian
company in 1997. At the time of the merger Allwaste alone
employed over 4,000 employees..
In 1988 the Houston Business Journal awarded Bubba the Enterprise
Award for significant growth and entrepreneurial achievements. In
1989 Allwaste was named second best managed Company in
America by Forbes Magazine with revenues under $350 million. In
November 1990, Bubba was named Entrepreneur of the Year
(Houston Region) by Ernst & Young, Merrill Lynch
and Inc. Magazine. In 1991 McNeese named Bubba Distinguished
Alumnus for his outstanding achievements as a Businessman.
In addition to Allwaste, he was the visionary and a founder of Sanifill,
Inc. a NYSE company involved in the start-up and acquisition of
sanitary landfills. Sanifill was acquired by Waste Management in
1996.
Leah Ann Wiltgen Nelson and Bubba were wed on July 25, 2009 in
Santa Monica, CA.
They will reside in Palm Dessert, CA and Naples, FL. until Leah's
daughter (Lexi) graduates.
Thereafter, they will reside in Naples. Bubba's daughter (Mia)
resides in Malibu, CA with her husband (Zach) and two sons (Boden 2
1/2) and Konah 5 months).
