After getting my Chemical Engineering degree from Louisiana
Tech I worked for Citgo Research for 7 years, 5 years in Lake
Charles and 2 years in Princeton, NJ. We then went with Texaco
Research in Port Arthur, TX (lived in Beaumont, TX) and spent
about 30 years there. Ended up as Manager of Texaco's Research
Facilities at Port Arthur, Beacon, NY and Pampa, TX after being
Manager of Chemicals and Catalysis Research, Environmental
Research and Laboratory Services. Texaco then formed a joint
venture with Shell and that moved us to Sugar Land where I spent
a few years in the Technology Center (formerly Shell Technology
Center) of the joint venture (Equilon Enterprises). I sold the Port
Arthur, TX facilities to Huntsman Corporation, worked as Research
Manager for the JV then retired and did some part time consulting
with Equilon and Shell Oil for three years but now spend most of
the time playing golf, visiting our grandchildren (2 in Abilene, TX -
8 years and 5 years old; 1 in League City, TX - 7 years old) and
doing some traveling. We usually spend at least 3-4 weeks each
year in Vermont traveling back roads (in a car) over mountains
and seeing all of the scenery and on the Maine coastline (we have
been doing this for the past 20 years). We try to spend as much
time with the grandchildren going to all of their activities while
grandparents are handy to have (and while we can do it as well). I
did find out that taking up golf at 62 wasn't as easy as I might
have thought but I enjoy being out on the course regardless of the
score.
