Immediately after graduation I entered the U.S.
Army and served in the Army Finance 372 unit.
Later I worked at Industrial Construction and
Commercial Transport Shipbuilding until 1959 at
which time I enrolled at McNeese State
University and attended for three years. In
December, 1962 I went to work for Firestone
and worked there for 34 years until my
retirement in 1996. I took early retirement at
the age of 56 due to health reasons. I’ve been a
diabetic for 43 years and have been insulin
dependent for 39 years. Since retirement I’ve
been able to better monitor all the problems that
go with being an insulin dependent diabetic for
so long.
In 1959 I met Sarah (Sue) Ogea, class of 1961.
It was love at first sight, but it would be four
years before we married on August 16, 1963.
Sue graduated from McNeese in 1965 with a B.S.
in Business Education and a minor in English.
She also earned a Master’s Degree in 1978 from
McNeese. She taught in Starks, Vinton, and
Sulphur High School until she retired in 1987.
We have two sons–Craig who completed his
education at Sowela in drafting and is employed
by ReCon Engineering as a senior pipe designer
and Todd who graduated from McNeese in 1991
with a degree in Business. Todd is employed by
Conoco as an operator. Our children and
grandchildren all live in the Sulphur area.
We have lived in Choupique all of our lives;
however, we have lived at 2792 Madison
Broussard Rd. in the center of 10 acres for the
last 34 of our 43 years of marriage. We consider
it a blessing to still able to do many of the things
we enjoy. We both teach Adult Sunday School
at our church, and Sue is the church secretary.
We spend our time supporting grandchildren in
their various activities, enjoying church
activities, fellowship with friends, and traveling
when we can.
